My apologies if I left out any information. Neither did simply selecting the tools ISO under Use ISO Image. I have even gone so far as to manually downloading the VMware Tools ISO and mounting it in Windows, but VMware did not recognize it under CD/DVD and it did not solve the issue. I installed Windows through an ISO, but have set CD/DVD to auto-detect as was suggested.

I get this every time I try, including through a VMware reboot and a full host system reboot. Contact VMware Support or your system administrator.

Instead, I get the error:Ĭould not find component on update server.

However, when I try to install VMTools from, it does not install. Which one of my programs needs in order to run. The issue I'm having is that because of VMTools (and possibly some other parts?) not being installed/updated, I can not enable 3d Acceleration. I need the VMCI modules to be installed so my VM can report it's IP address into vCenter which is needed for downstream automation tasks. I spent 5-ish hours following links and google searches for this, nothing that I could find fixed the issue. I'm seeing the same behavior with VMware-tools-windows-11.0.1-14773994 and Win 10 1909. This link is a little old but explains the performance differences in far more detail: Choosing a VMware NIC: Should you replace your E1000 with the VMXNET3? ()Īnyway hopefully changing the nic helps others with the same issue. To start off, YES, I have attempted every possible fix for this I could find. Oddly E1000E is the default card despite it not being the optimum choice for many.

I've changed it in my template for future builds. For example, VMware Tools 10.2.5 provides support for the following systems: Windows Vista and later Linux RHEL 5 and later, SUSE SLES 11 and later, Ubuntu 10.04 and later Mac OS X 10.11 and later Solaris OSes. I changed this to a VMXNET 3 network adapter and it seems to be ok. I've tested removing vmware-tools and it removes the problem - but of course I want vmware-tools for various functionality too! I've also tried changing the vnic in the guests - it seems to only be affecting the default E1000E network adapter. Thankfully these guests are not production currently! Reboot them and they work for a short while but then drop connectivity totally again. I've tried to vmkping from a host as well as from externally - no response. After installing the latest vmware-tools (11.7794) the guest start to drop network connection. I've had to rebuild a number of Windows 10, 21H1 build guests (full guests not linked clones etc) on a vsphere 6.7 cluster. Please message the moderators and we'll pull it back in.
